Psalm 98:4

St. John’s Lutheran Church and School is blessed with many music groups, giving members opportunities to use their musical talents to God’s glory. It is our joy to praise God and proclaim His message of salvation through music.

Chancel Choir
The adult choir meets each Thursday from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the music room. We sing approximately twice a month, including major festivals of the church year. We are blessed to have a large repertoire of beautiful choral works that follow the church calendar.
Sounds of Praise
The adult handbell group rehearses on Thursdays from 5:45 – 6:50 pm in the church balcony. Practices and performances are scattered throughout the church year, including Christmas and Easter. No experience is necessary but having some music background is helpful. Playing handbells requires a complete commitment to being at all scheduled rehearsals and performances.

Instrumentalists
If you play an instrument and would like to share your talent with us, please speak with our Director of Music, Mr. Dale Woock. You may also reach him at 847-741-0814 ext 117 or email him at mrwoock@stjohns-school-elgin.org
School Handbell Groups
Consists of 5-6 grade students, and 7-8 grade students. Each group meets during the school day for a portion of the school year. Ringers work on note reading, bell techniques, and musicianship. Their music is shared at worship services, concerts, and other opportunities that may happen throughout the school year.

Joyful Singers
The middle school choir for 5th – 8th grade students of St. John’s Lutheran School Singers work on more challenging music and part-singing. This choir rehearses twice a week during the school day. The choir will sing for weekend worship services, school chapel services, music fest (our spring concert), and other opportunities that may happen during the school year.
Children’s Choir
Consists of St. John’s Lutheran School students in 3rd and 4th grade. Rehearsals are held during the school day as part of the curriculum. Music skills and vocal training are important elements of each rehearsal. This choir will sing for weekend worship services, school chapel services, music fest (our spring concert), and other opportunities that may happen during the school year.

Primary Choir
is for our younger St. John’s Lutheran School students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade. They rehearse weekly during the school day to prepare joyful songs to sing for weekend worship services and school chapel services. The goal is to help develop their voices in order that they can share the Gospel through music.
